I work with women’s psychological development throughout the lifespan. Presenting in unique ways for each woman, some of the major contemporary female life tasks may include:
Integration of one’s formative childhood experiences and the lineages that converge in one’s existence
Working with belonging to family, including honoring parents and relatives while differentiating and protecting oneself as needed
Addressing of female intergenerational discontinuity and disconnection in relationships and in oneself, especially the learned dismissal or even denigration of traditionally feminine skills, wisdom, and sources of bonding and life satisfaction
Healing of alienation from the female body at every stage of life
Healing of sexuality, especially recovering from trauma as well as identifying and resolving patterns of self-deception and self-harm in one’s sexual life
Creation of conditions, internal and external, for true communion and partnership in romantic love
Motherhood, biological and/or spiritual
Devotion to and contribution of one’s particular gifts and talents, professionally and/or personally
Engagement in communal, ethnic, and religious dimensions of life
Building of genuine and abiding self-esteem, against relentless social pressures toward consumerism, media saturation, identity performance, and chronic insecurity and restlessness
The female body—as a primally meaningful reality shared by women across circumstances and choices—continually informs my work. Having found many women in need of attention to their whole united beings, body and soul, I offer this kind of exploration and support, especially regarding the reproductive years. I work with women on the psychological dimensions of such bodily experiences as the menstrual cycle; health issues related to the reproductive system and pelvis; pregnancy prevention and pregnancy achievement; fertility struggles; pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period; all forms of perinatal loss; mothering; and perimenopause and menopause. I encourage self-education and self-advocacy for women navigating their bodily wellness and care. I walk with women through the empathic embodied reality of my own female life.
Current great related interests of mine include minimally-disturbed physiologic birth (especially home birth) and womanhood through the lens of Natural Family Planning/Fertility Awareness Methods, whether practiced for religious or personal reasons.
